Those are per-person starting figures at the largest group size. They are indicative ranges, not fixed tariffs, and the whole calculation is set out on the pricing page. Nothing on this site is quoted formally until we have your dates, because rail fares and holiday uplifts move the total by more than any other single factor.
Rails or road: the short version
Three night trains run Hanoi to Lao Cai. SP1 leaves at 21:35 and arrives around 05:25, SP3 leaves at 22:00 and arrives around 05:55, and SP7 leaves at 22:30 or 22:40 and arrives between 06:25 and 06:40. Running time is seven hours forty-five to eight hours. From Lao Cai station it is a further 35 kilometres and about an hour up to Sa Pa.
The road runs 315 kilometres from Hanoi on the Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway, which is 245 kilometres long and has been open along its full length since 21 September 2014. Drive time is five to seven hours. More than nineteen companies work the route with over two hundred departures a day, and the heaviest cluster is the overnight window between 20:00 and 02:00.

The railway's own system quotes only once a date is entered, so every train price above comes from ticket agents and should be treated as a working range. We confirm the exact fare for your date before anything is bought.

How we work, stated as rules
Choosing between operators in Sa Pa is hard because every company writes the same adjectives. The four things below are mechanical: they can be checked against what you are sent, and they are the reason a quote from here is not the cheapest one you will receive.
Twelve travellers, maximum
Group departures close at twelve. Above that the valley paths turn into a queue and the cable car cabins split the group across separate rides. Larger private groups are quoted as two guided units, not one.
A reply inside twelve working hours
Working hours are 08:30 to 18:00, Monday to Saturday, GMT+7. The first reply says whether your dates work and names the constraint you have not thought of yet, before any price.
One guide, based in Sa Pa, for the whole trip
The same English-speaking guide from the first morning to the last, living in Sa Pa rather than sent up from Hanoi for the week. On the valley day the guide walks the route with you, not ahead of you.
Tickets bought in your name
Rail berths, cable car tickets and village entrance tickets are bought against your passport details and handed over as documents, so you can see what was paid for what.
What a trip here costs
The published cost of the parts is not a secret, and pretending otherwise is how quotes stop being comparable. A Fansipan cable car return ticket is VND 850,000 for an adult and VND 550,000 for a child under the 2026 tariff. The Cat Cat entrance ticket is VND 150,000 for an adult. The Lao Chai to Ta Van route ticket is VND 75,000. A dorm bed in Sa Pa starts around VND 100,000 a night and a mid-range bungalow around VND 500,000.

Three destination pages exist for people who have not decided yet. They do not sell anything. They describe what is there, how long it is worth staying and when to skip it.

Who we are not the right company for
- Groups above twelve. The cap is the product; removing it changes what you are buying on the paths and in the cable car cabins.
- Travellers who want a graded multi-day trek with difficulty ratings and mountain camps. That is a different kind of company and we do not sell it, even when asked.
- Anyone whose main criterion is the lowest number. There is always a cheaper quote in Sa Pa, and the pricing page explains exactly what it usually costs you.
- Travellers who need a guide in a language other than English. We run in English only and will say so rather than book somebody who half-speaks yours.
- People who need a phone line answered at midnight. Enquiries here run by email in working hours; travellers already on a confirmed trip carry the on-the-ground numbers in their document pack.

Questions travellers ask most
Do you sell only tours, or can you book just the train?
The three tours are what we sell. Rail berths and transfers are bought as part of a tour, in your names, and we do not sell tickets on their own.
If your plan is to arrange everything yourself and only take a guide for a day, say so in the first email. The Fansipan day and the valley walk both work that way and are priced that way.
How far ahead should we ask?
For ordinary dates, three to four weeks gives a clean choice of train class and hotel. Four-berth cabins go first on Friday and Saturday departures.
For national holidays and the September to November harvest weeks, six to eight weeks is more realistic, and private carriage berths carry a 10 to 30 percent uplift on those dates.
Is Sa Pa worth it in the rain?
June to August is the wet stretch, the annual rainfall average is 2,779 millimetres and the earth paths below Lao Chai stay slick for weeks. Trains can run 15 to 30 minutes late in that window.
What you get in exchange is water in the terraces, far fewer people on the paths and lower hotel rates. It is a real trade, not a consolation.
Why are there no customer reviews on this site?
Because a testimonial nobody can verify is worth nothing, and we would rather you check the things that can be verified: sourced ticket prices with the date we read them, named hotels in the itinerary before you pay, and a written list of what is not included.
